The Argentine Federation of Wood Industries (Faima) has issued a challenge for the country to construct its first wooden building. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), there are over 100 wooden buildings, with eight or more floors, worldwide. The majority of these projects are in Europe and North America. In Latin America, completed or under-construction wooden buildings exist in only five countries: Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, and Mexico.
“In Argentina, we still lack standardized terminology, public policies, and efforts to dispel deeply rooted myths about wood, its use, and origin, as well as education and other areas that Faima and its chambers can lead to achieve what would be the first wooden building in our country,” said Daniel Vier, Faima’s Secretary-General.
According to Faima, wood construction promotes environmentally friendly practices and habits by using less harmful materials. This shift reduces the carbon footprint and fosters new forms of social connection.
