CAÇADOR (SC) IS A POLE FOR PINUS WOOD INDUSTRIALIZATION

The wood industry in Santa Catarina has a strong international presence. According to information produced by the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (FIESC), over 70% of the doors and nearly half of the solid wood furniture exported by Brazil come from the state (ACR 2021). Despite this, there is a significant opportunity to further industrialize the trees grown in Santa Catarina.

“In the last 10 years, we have seen major industrial investments, and in addition, several wood suppliers have started to industrialize their own products across various sectors, leading to the creation of new factories,” says Aurélio de Bortolo, president of the Caçador Wood Industry Union (Simca). According to the leader, the volume of wood processed locally has doubled since then, resulting in doors, frames, and furniture, classified in the sector as Value-Added Products (PVA), which are mostly exported, as well as reconstituted wood panels and other products. “Today, Caçador is the largest center for pinus wood industrialization in Southern Brazil, considering value-added products,” states De Bortolo.
